I’m usually pretty good about starting and finishing projects in a timely manner. But for some reason, this cute little dresser that my mom found for me at a thrift store has sat neglected in my garage for years. I thought it was so unique with all it’s intricate detail, but I just didn’t know what to do with it. It wasn’t until I was contacted by Beyond Paint, that I decided to tackle this Thrift Store Furniture Makeover with Beyond Paint.
Full disclosure: Beyond Paint didn’t pay me to do this, but they did send me a quart of paint to try out for free and just share with my followers what I think of it. Beyond Paint is an all-in-one, water-based paint that is made with “Nano Technology” which just means it’s extra durable. It works on any kind of surface, from wood and laminate to tile and even masonry, and you don’t need to sand or prime. If you know me, I sand EVERYTHING! And this particular dresser/nightstand was so full of cracks, scratches, and imperfections, I would have spent hours sanding it. So, I thought, why not give Beyond Paint a try?
The only thing I had to do was make sure the surface was clean. I used a slightly damp cloth to accomplish that.
I pulled out the drawers and removed the knobs, which I planned to replace anyway. The only thing is, they were glued and stapled in place. I had to pry them off, and when I did, I ended up causing a little damage. There’s always something to contend with in every project. But, in the grand scheme of things, this was a minor setback. I just filled the damaged area with wood putty, sanded it smooth, and then drilled holes for the new knobs to go in.
Finally, it was time to paint. The color I chose was Navy and I couldn’t wait to see it. I opened up the container and talk about a bold color! I loved it. Again, I thought, why not go bold? I’ve got nothing to lose. Then I noticed how thick the paint was. The paint stirrer, literally, stood up on it’s own in the center of the container! That’s something I’ve never seen before. That must be that “Nano Technology” stuff they talk about.
Anyway, I got to painting. Because of the intricate design on the front of the drawers, typically, I would have used my paint sprayer. But I wanted to really put Beyond Paint to the test, so I used the brush and roller they sent me in the kit.
It took me two and even three coats of paint in some areas to get the coverage I needed. That’s expected whenever you take the color from one extreme to the other as I did, going from off-white to navy blue. Once dried, I added the brass knobs, and loved the contrast it created against the new navy blue color.
Ta-da! My Thrift Store Furniture Makeover with Beyond Paint is done!
So here’s my honest opinion of Beyond Paint:
It’s obviously a high quality paint. I’m really impressed with how it filled in a lot, though not all, of those little cracks in my dresser. It left a smooth finish with no brush strokes.
Beyond Paint doesn’t offer a whole lot of color choices, but the colors they do have are really gorgeous and in keeping with current color trends.
It’s more expensive than the paint I usually buy, but on the other hand, time is money and this paint did save me hours of sanding. I also have a lot of paint left over to do another project, so there’s definitely added value.
Would I use it again? Absolutely. In fact, if you’d like to give it a try, they’ve given me an affiliate link that I can share with you all, so that you can receive 15% off your order. And if you use this link, I too, will get a 15% commission. https://beyondpaint.com/ref/Marcy/
