fall 2020 decor

Here, in Arizona, we like to joke about having only two seasons:  Hot and Hotter!  The last couple of months of “Hotter” were particularly brutal.  So, you’ll have to excuse me for putting up my Fall 2020 Decor early.  With things so off-kilter this year, the moment the temperature dipped below 100º, I guess I got excited.   That said, I may have gotten a little carried away with all the pumpkins… especially those I painted masks on!  But I figured you can still draw inspiration from it all, and I’m even including a fun Time-Lapse video that’ll show you how to paint pumpkins.

Painting pumpkins is actually quite easy.  You’ll notice in the video below, the trick is to layer different shades of the same color.  Whether the pumpkin is orange or blue, I use two shades of each, then I highlight by mixing in a little white without cleaning my brush in between.  Be sure to click the video to see it come together.  And, if you’d like to duplicate it, you can find the wooden sign at Joann’s.  With my coupon, it was under $5 dollars!

After painting that sign for my front door, I came upon another sign at the Dollar Tree that said, “Friends Gather Here.” I couldn’t help but think how that’s not the case this year, thanks to the Covid pandemic.  And because sometimes I have a twisted sense of humor, I decided to paint masks over the pumpkins, and make it say, “Can’t Gather.”  In my mind, it’s so funny and perfect for Fall 2020 Decor.  I picture those delivering packages coming to my front door and getting a good chuckle.  But they’re probably just rolling their eyes.

Aside from the new signs, I thought I’d share pictures of the way I brought Fall into my kitchen.   They’re the same pumpkins I put up every year, but somehow, I think they’ve multiplied.  I basically just try to create little Fall vignettes for the eye to see in different areas.

My favorite accessories are ones I can easily change up to match the season.  For instance, I have this tiered tray that I use to put to-go coffee cups, cinnamon, honey, and tea bags in.  All summer, I had eucalyptus and lemons mixed in between.  But now, I just put autumn leaves instead.

I also have my Dad’s little red truck.  I think he would love knowing I use it as a centerpiece and change it up to match the season.  It’s hauled everything from Christmas trees and shamrocks to lemons and now pumpkins.  Best of all, I painted my Dad’s name above the license plate.

The rest of my pumpkins are scattered all along the tops of my cabinets.

Amidst all the fake foliage, I do have some real sunflowers at the moment.  My husband knows how much I love them, and he surprised me with them a couple of days ago.

The flowers, the nicer weather, and now waking up to all this Fall 2020 Decor…. I’d say things are definitely looking up.  The only thing missing is hanging out with friends mask-free, while sipping on pumpkin lattes.  I am so ready for it!
