Regardless of whether you have a significant other to celebrate Valentine’s Day with, a Galentine’s Party is a sweet way to tell your favorite gal pals how much they mean to you. Get it? GAL-entine’s? (That’s for those of you who thought it was a typo.) Galentine’s was the brainchild of Amy Poehler’s character in the TV show, Parks & Recreation. And thanks to her, I now have the perfect excuse to go over-the-top girly. I’m talking pink napkins rolled up to look like roses, fru-fru desserts, and strawberry mimosas! So file this under the category of “Musings” by Marcy, as I share some photos of my Galentine’s soirée. Hope you’re inspired to get creative and have some alternative Valentine’s Day fun.
For my Mimosa Bar, I offered three flavors of juice: orange, mango nectar, and strawberry banana. The glass juice jars are from the 99-cent Store. I found the chalkboard stickers at Target’s “dollar spot.” As for the ornate chalkboard, that was a Goodwill find. It originally framed some hideous artwork, which I just painted over with black chalkboard paint.
I found this frame at Goodwill, as well. I just made up a little sign and printed it. I thought “tickled pink” was perfect for the occasion, considering my kitchen was filled with pink.
I made a banner and table runner from a piece of burlap I bought at Joann’s. Both were easy sew projects.
I love my old Singer sewing machine. It belonged to my great grandmother and still works beautifully today.
With the table runner done, fresh flowers add the perfect touch.
And now…DESSERT.
The strawberry shortcake, served up in small canning jars, was a hit. I bought the jars at Walmart, and embellished them with stickers from Target’s dollar spot. I just layered white cake, whipped cream and strawberries inside.
Chocolate covered strawberries are a must for any Valentine’s or Galentine’s celebration. I made these very simply with cholate melt-aways from Michael’s. (Be sure to use your coupon for 40% off.)
For lunch, I served chicken salad sandwiches and a light pasta dish. Look closely and you’ll see my rose napkins. I bought pink napkins at the Dollar Tree, rolled them up, and then threw in a couple of green leaves to make them look like roses.
Throw some heart-shaped candy into any clear glass jar, and you’ve got instant decor.
